Amazingly dumb things we do with our smartphones
Sat May 4, 2013
I agree with you. If I'm stuck on an elevator for a few minutes with strangers, I'd much prefer we were all playing hangman and checking twitter than awkwardly trying to avoid eye contact. Also, a lot of bands tell the audience to whip out their cell phones during certain songs. So the writer of thi …

Help scientists name Pluto's moons
Mon Feb 11, 2013
Alan, Thanks for this. My daughter, niece, and nephew are always excited when things like this come up because they really feel like they're helping shape the future of space. I also wanted to thank you for your heads up on the asteroid naming contest. My daughter entered, and her suggestion (Thoth) …
Viral: Eerie photo of French soldier in Mali upsets military officials
Tue Jan 22, 2013
Think of the uproar if he'd worn a Hello Kitty bandanna. I think the photo is beautiful and terrible, as all great and truly moving photography should be. I'm with the photographer. First, I hope they don't even try to figure out who it was, and if they do try, I hope they fail.
People who don't stink still wear deodorant, study finds
Thu Jan 17, 2013
How many of the 117 knew that they were not capable of having stinky armpits under normal circumstances? If they didn't know, it cannot be said that they were simply conforming to social norms. Unless they were told that they have a rare genetic variant that makes them not stinky, it would be reason …
Flu outbreak spurs spike in sales of meds

@Sully Shh. Don't feed the trolls. It's probably just one person anyway. Too much back and forth within minutes of each other for realistic discussion between two people. Either that, or they're two people who have no lives and enjoy trolling together. Any way you look at it, it's subpar trolling.
Hugo Chavez's disappearing act fuels speculation about Venezuela's future
Sat Jan 19, 2013
It's like a smorgasbord of logical fallacies in here. It'll make a nice teaching tool when I do my final "Fallacies Bonanza" with my daughter next month. Do they not teach reason, persuasive writing, and critical thinking in public schools anymore? Alas. Chavez is either dead or so ill that he canno …
Colicky babies may have wrong gut bacteria
Mon Jan 14, 2013
I breastfed my daughter for the first three months, and she had colic the entire time. We switched to formula because she was having difficulty, and then switched to soy. At that point, the colic cleared up, but it's in that range where it could just have cleared up on its own. She later developed a …
YouTube's car star fulfills dream of boy with cancer
Fri Dec 28, 2012
Great story. I'm so happy that Andrew is going to be okay, and that he found a genuinely kind young man to look up to. The world needs more people like Kyle.
What is an itch, anyway? Another clue found
Thu Dec 27, 2012
The article that leads to this discussion is about itching. I don't know why the partial article on sex and Christianity is at the bottom, but I'm pretty sure it was in error. ;) As for itchiness, I'm hoping that they can find the nerves that are responsible for RLS (mine doesn't just involve my leg …
